Taha Tinana

Taha Tinana

What is Taha Tinana?

Taha tinana is your physical wellbeing. This involves taking care of your body. To keep your physical health healthy you need to eat the right food, exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, make sure get enough sleep and stay hydrated.

How is it affected by lockdown?

Being in lockdown can affect your physical wellbeing in many ways. The most obvious is that you won’t be going outside as often. You can still eat healthy food, drink water and get the right amount of sleep needed.

How can you support your physical wellbeing?

One way you could support you health is to maintain your diet. If you eat too much junk food you slowly become more unfit. Taking walks or even jogging help build up strength and endurance in your legs.

Taha whānau

Taha whānau

What is Taha whānau?

Taha whānau is your social wellbeing. It involves your relationship with other people. You probably talk to at least one person a day which is apart of Taha whānau. Family and friends are often the people we socialise with most making your social wellbeing and bond with them stronger.

How is it affected by lockdown?

Taha whānau can be affected in multiple ways in lockdown. You become closer with family as you are always with them making a strong connection between you and them. Being closed off in your house also can distance you from your friends, and relatives. During lockdown you can talk to people by phone closing off the distance in your relationship with others.

How can you support your relationships with others?

Even if you have family overseas or other friends locked in their house you can support your connection with them by texting or calling each other. Don’t get too busy talking to others by phone because you still have your family.

Famous Mathematicians - Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton

As this week is Maths week we are completing a series of Maths problems. Today was our first challenge we learned about famous mathematician, to solve a few problems. Everyone got split into groups with around 4-5 people. We weren't really with our close friends so this was a good way to talk to other classmates and learn to work together.

Step Up 2021

This years Step Up Programme was a remarkable time! I'm very grateful that the teachers and staff gave us the opportunity to step up and out of our comfort zone. I feel like the year 7's for next year will find these activities just as fun as we did, but I think it could be better if we did some other activities.

We should definitely keep Mrs Moala's murder mystery, it's fun and mysterious it also gets people using their heads to solve the problem. I think doing the sports is fine but maybe we could do different sports, maybe the year 7's could suggest the sports they want to play a few weeks before so that the teachers can put it in the timetable. The activities are all fun so even if it's still the same next year I'm sure the year 7's will have an amazing three days.

Overall , these three days are really important for both the year 7's and year 8's. It's good for us to work together and have fun during those three days, and learn to step up.

My Highlights from the year 7 Step Up Programme

Last week from Wednesday to Friday the year 8's had camp, leaving the year 7's having a fun step up program at school. This step up programme for the year 7's were very fun and we learned many things, like how to work together even if we aren't the best-est of friends. We played many games and had a very enjoyable three days. I just wanted to say thank you to the teachers who planned all the activity's for the year 7's and 8's we all had a great time and many euphoric moments during that period of time.

I had many highlights but my favourite thing I did that week wasn't really apart of the year 7 Step Up Programme but I thought it would be nice to share that experience.

As the prefect's are year 8's they also went to camp so someone had to step up to fulfil their job of doing assembly. I was chosen to be 1 out of the 8 year 7 fill in prefects. It was a new experience for me where I had to step up. I learned how important it is to work together with others when doing this job. Luckily we all cooperated well and got the job done. Though this experience I also learned to try my best because you never know if you'll do a good job unless you try.

As I saw it... Captain Cook's arrival, crew, and the cause of the deaths.

Today during the morning period all of Room 4 learned about the arrival of Captain Cook and his crew, and how they murdered some people the same day they came. I worked together with my buddy, Madi to complete this task.
