Phone advert - literacy poster

During a recent literacy meet, we were given the task to make simple and persuasive advertisements in the form of a poster. I had to pick an object of person in my house to advertise, I choose to use my phone for this task.

I hope you like the poster and leave a positive comment. :)

Writing challenge

The goal for this writing challenge was to write a 6 sentence story about the pictures above which were of a busy road, a gorilla and a pink tutu. We also had to use the word shock/shocked as well as speech marks and an exclamation mark.

Me and my group - Simon, Alrida and Tahliyah - all wrote our own versions of the same idea we shared, this was the version we all agreed to present.

Tutu, the most beautiful gorilla of them all, had been kicked out and left on the streets to starve. On the busy streets, Tutu had done multiple performances in his bright, hot pink, tutu to earn himself some money.

There was this one expensive-looking car, with a rich-looking man exiting. The man walked up to Tutu giving him $10,000 while saying ‘nice tutu’ after the man said that he stole his tutu.

“I’M GONNA WEAR THIS TUTU FOREVER, IT MAKES ME MORE BEAUTIFUL!”

Tutu was shocked by his actions and cried for he was no longer Tutu if he didn’t have a tutu..

Mars Information report

Mars Information report

The terrestrial planet Mars used to have a past like Earth; the surface covered in water. All that water is said to be frozen now. Mars has never and probably won’t have as much life as Earth anytime soon, but who said we couldn’t try?

You can read further for more information on Mars’ formulation and its current status.

Mars current status

Mars - otherwise known as ‘The Red Planet’ - is covered in its iron-rich dust. The dust makes the landscape of the planet appear red. All that dust covers 144.8 million km² of ground.

Like Earth, Mars is in the habitable zone where it’s not too far from the sun, but not too close to it either. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun, being the next planet behind Earth.

Unlike Earth, Mars has two moons, not one. Phobos is Mars' closest orbiting moon, it orbits 3,700 miles - 6,000 km - from Mars’ surface, and only takes 8 hours. Phobos is smaller than our full moon by about a third.

Mars’ other moon - Deimos - takes 30 hours to orbit. The name Deimos comes from ancient Greek mythology. He was the son of Ares and Aphrodite, along with Phobos, his twin brother. Deimos was the personification of terror, his name meaning dread.

Over the past few years Nasa has been sending machines called a rover to Mars. So far they’ve already sent five, each one having a name. The names of the five rovers are: Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance.

These rovers have a specific job which is to roam on the surface of Mars. Their main objective is to search for and characterize a variety of rocks and soils that hold clues to past water activity. It also helps scientists understand the different parts and places on the planet.

As of June 2021 all the rovers have died but Curiosity. They all managed to do as tasked though. Curiosity is still up and working around Mars. It’s currently been active since its landing; making it 3143 sols (3229 total days; 8 years, 307 days) old/active.

Mars’ formulation

In the past about 4.5 million years ago, the solar system setted into the layout it is currently in. Dust and swirling gas was pulled in by gravity creating Mars; the fourth planet in the solar system. Like all the other terrestrial planets Mars too, has a central core, rocky mantle and a solid crust.

Mars’ dense core is made out of iron, nickel, and sulfur. The core sits at its center about 930 and 1,300 miles (1,500 to 2,100 kilometres) in diameter.

Researchers have found out - after analyzing for about three years - that Mars’ core has not been cooled to a solid iron completely. Instead the core's interior is made up of a completely liquid iron core or a liquid outer core with a solid core inside.

Covering up Mars’ core is its mantle. It’s been said that Mars’ mantle is about twice as rich in iron as the Earth’s mantle. The mantle is primarily made up of silicon, oxygen, iron, and magnesium. The mantle is approximately 770 to 1,170 miles (1,240 to 1,880 km) thick, that is according to NASA.

In Mars’ earlier years, the surface was discovered to maybe have possessed liquid water that covered the entire surface. The water was approximately equivalent to half the volume of the Atlantic Ocean, the water was perhaps up to nearly a mile (1.5 km) deep.

Conclusion

This red planet still has a long way to go for there to be life. But when there is, wouldn’t it be cool to live there?

The Jacket - Part 1

Recently in literacy we've been reading a book called 'The Jacket'. This first part is about two boys getting into a fight over a Jacket. Phil - the taller boy at the back - thought that Daniel - the other boy on the cover - stole his little brothers jacket, so conflict arose.

Stonks, Robert, and Craig's 'Epic' fart fail

This is my piece of writing from a few weeks ago. In our writing group we all gave random idea's and had a vote to decide on the characters and the setting. The characters we had to use were Stonks guy, Craig and Robert, while the setting was in the KFC bathrooms. Majority voted to have the problem be an explosion caused by the groups farting challenge. It was difficult to think of an idea for this story but it was ton's of fun to write, I hope you enjoy it!

NOTE : This is a piece of crack writing. This story is not serious at all and barely has logic.
Also may contain memes and jokes, if you don’t understand such jokes, I’m sorry to say you are most likely a boomer. Do not take any of that seriously though.

So buckle up for this weird and wonderful crack piece of writing.

“Stonks! Challenge, follow me, now!” Craig yelled coming out of the KFC bathrooms. Stonks follows Craig to the toilets only to see Robert doing the loudest and longest fart he can. At first Stonks guy was confused until Craig followed Robert’s actions but much bigger.

“✨Y E S✨” Robert said with stars in his eyes like the emoji.

“That’s the challenge?” Stonks guy said, his expression showed not much enthusiasm. Only a few seconds later he was laughing hard out, slapping his knee. Craig and Robert stare at each other saying he’s a mad man with just their eyes.

“Well it’s not very good is it? How about I try” Stonks guy says after his laughing fit. That’s where things went wrong.

Stonks let out a fart so big, so loud and super stinky. The sentch of the fart could be smelt of outside the KFC toilets, possibly outside the KFC building itself. Everyone gagged at the horrid smell before bursting out in laughter.

“Let’s do it again!” Craig yells. “I can’t lose to Stonks guy!”

They all had their turns again, this time Craig had won with a fart that they could have sworn lasted a minute. Then it happened, the most wonderful idea that Robert could think of.

“Guys… Let’s fart all at once! Let’s see how bad yet awesome it’ll be!” Robert said with a serious face at first, but as he continued his words the excitement became evident in his voice. Everyone agreed and they started counting down.

“3...2...1!”

“Let it rip boys!” With those four words they let everything out.

The floor beneath them started shaking leaving them shooketh. The stall doors in the bathroom suddenly flung open - if they didn’t fling open then they probably broke off - at that moment, they knew, they messed up.

“GOTTA GO FAST” Craig exclaimed, running away.

“RuN LIkE tHe WInD, rUN LIKe ThE SKy” Robert yelled following behind Craig, and running almost as fast as Hinata a.k.a ✨l i g h t n i n g f a s t✨.

“These guys can’t just leave me” Stonks says, pouting like a child who wasn’t allowed to buy their favourite candy.

“Ahhh well… YEET” Stonks said, Naruto running out of the KFC toilets.

The three boy's ran to the table they sat at before the fart challenge, grabbing their now cold food. They were out of KFC in an instint and nowhere to be found.

One of the workers noticed the loud sounds of the doors crashing to the ground, and the shattered shards of glass spread on the floor. He had no idea what was happening, but when he saw the three troublemakers exit the bathroom in a rush he knew something was up.

“That’s weird.. that’s suspicious” The worker said while walking over to the toilet. He peaks in and sees the biggest mess ever made.

“HOLY SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS” He shouts, it seems like he was too loud as one of his co-workers heard him.

“CHILE- CHILL” One of the female employees yelled back at him before walking over to the scene to see what happened. She continued to stare at the used-to-be clean bathroom which currently looks like a tornado hit it.

“WHAT IS THAT?! WHAT IS THAT?!” She said with a surprised pikachu face.

The legend of the golden snail

Yesterday me and my group - Nina and Aye - completed this work sheet.
We first had to read though the text which was 'The legend of the golden snail'. After reading though it we skim and scanned though the text looking for a few of the settings it took place in, who the characters were, and described a few traits the charters had, ticking off the boxes on the list.
We all did something to contribute and complete the task.

If you would like a more accurate explanation of what we did, I'd suggest looking on Nina, or Aye's blog, it'd be nice if you left them a positive comment as well.

Symbolism

During today literacy lesson with Mrs Stone we learn't about symbolism. We read a text called 'the key game' after that we made a poster which is on the 4th slide, I have an explanation of what and why I drew those things for my poster next to the drawing. I used a few bits from the text and drew it the way I imagined it.

Atiu Cook Islands

 Atiu Cook Islands

This week in literacy at Mr Moran's class we learnt about Atiu Cook Islands, heres a little presentation to give a bit information I have learnt so far, this was also shared with my friend/classmate Valessa. I recommend cheacking her blog out and leaving her a positive comment.

Writing challenge

Earlier this week in Room 1's literacy class we were challenged by Mr Moran with this writing challenge.

We had to write a short story made up with only 6 sentences, three pictures, and a few adjectives. The three pictures this time were of Spongebob, the world and a broom. The adjectives were adorable, treasure, bruised, and because. We also had to use speech marks.

This is what I wrote using those.

Spongebob walked around his house looking for Gary, his snail. While searching, Spongebob finds a globe of the world giving him an amazing idea.

“Gary, we’re going on a treasure hunt!”

Gary was put onto a boom that was floating because Spongebob was holding it above the ground. Unfortunately the poor snail couldn’t keep his balance, he fell and bruised himself.  Spongebob watched the adorable face his snail made before helping him up, and getting on with his day.

There is a possibility that I will post more of my writing challenges so I hoped you enjoy them.

This week we've been focusing on writing cinquains. Cinquains are poems made with only 5 lines and 22 syllables. A cinquain is similar to the Japanese poem called haiku, but a cinquain is american. On the sixth slide is a slide with a few of my cinquains, I made some with the help of a friend.

Biodiversity and biodiversity loss - Create task

While learning about biodiversity I made this poster to show what biodiversity is, what some of the causes to biodiversity are and what effects biodiversity loss can have on the world and it's environment. I wrote most of this using information I already knew, but I did have to do a bit of research.

Loss of Biodiversity

WALT: identify the author’s purpose
This week we are learning about biodiversity and biodiversity loss. Biodiversity is the large variety of living organisms on earth. Unfortunately our biodiversity is decreasing, we have been learning more about how it is decreasing through out the world. During the amount of time we have been learning about this I have found out many things I didn't know before.

Plastic pollution

WALT: to organise our ideas into paragraphs

We have many environmental problems globally, but one of the most problematic and harmful environmental issues would be plastic pollution. Many people know that plastic pollution is a big problem throughout the world, yet people continue using and making plastic. As most of the world's population uses plastic it’s being made more, and more of that plastic ends up in our beautiful oceans. Those actions are causing plastic pollution to become an even bigger environmental issue that only a few thousand of us are dealing with properly. Plastic pollution in the world is so inferior we have an island of rubbish just floating in the sea. The most disappointing thing is that only a few of us are doing something about plastic pollution, it’s about time we all do something to help the environment. One simple thing you could do to commit to helping the environment is possibly using as many biodegradable plastic objects you can, as it can break down quicker than normal plastic.

Everyone knows how useful and beneficial plastic can be to us, but with those benefits also comes problems, and inconveniences. Plastic is durable, and that's convenient, but it’s also the main problem about plastic. The fact that it’s durable makes it harder to break down. It can take up to 1,000 years at most, and that’s only an estimate, it could possibly take longer. Once the plastic breaks down a bit it’s small enough for marine animals to eat, because of that the fish we eat are likely to have ingested plastic, meaning we are also eating plastic.

Plastic is used a lot in our daily lives. We use plastic so often that it seems like we need it, but we don’t. Instead of using single use plastic you could replace it with something else like maybe replacing a plastic water bottle with a stainless steel bottle. Another thing you could replace would be cosmetics. A lot of people don’t know that there are little pieces of plastic hidden inside a few cosmetic products. Those littles pieces of plastic are called microbeads. Fortunately microbeads have been banned in a few countries.

Not every piece of plastic is single use. In Fact you can always use it again. Clean the plastic again and use it, don’t throw it away and get the same piece of plastic. If you use it again it doesn’t have to still have the same purpose. You can always repurpose the plastic by turning something like a water bottle into a vase, or pencil holder. Use your mind and be creative. Not only would you be helping the environment, but you could also entertain yourself creating something with the plastic.

Often we buy things with plastic that we don’t need, leaving you with left-over rubbish. You can avoid that necessary waste by refusing to buy the plastic in the first place. Instead of going to a store where things are new and packaged in plastic you can go to a second hand shop. I recommend going to a second hand shop because it’s already unpackaged, you would have no leftover plastic. Not only will it be ridding you of extra waste but it could also save your money.

If you want to see the world restored to its original beauty, the best thing you could do is follow doing as many of the R’s as you can. Make sure you continue it even if it feels like you're not doing anything helpful, because in reality you are. You shouldn’t do it by yourself so tell your family and friends, so we can save the earth.

Plastic pollution

For this week we read about plastic pollution, and the effect it has on life, specifically marine life. I quite enjoyed the text that we read, I learned a lot of where the pollution comes from, what it does to us as well as other creatures, and how we can help. Make sure you use the 3 R's it helps more then you think!

Effects of plastic pollution

The Possessed

The Possessed
“Jackson, what are you doing? It’s past 11, you should be asleep!” Jackson could tell his mother was mad
by the tone of her voice.
“I’m looking for my toy that I sleep with every night” Jackson’s mother sighs, as she knew that what she
was about to say to Jackson might upset him.
“Look Jackson, you're getting older now aren’t you? You’re already 7, it’s about time you stop sleeping with
that old, worn out toy”
“NO! I CAN’T SLEEP WITHOUT IT!” His mother was heartbroken seeing him this way. He’s not usually like
that. She didn’t want him to throw a larger tantrum so she told him to look under his bed. With those words,
he ran to his room trying to find the toy he loved more than anything. He dropped himself slowly onto the
ground and leaned forward, head on the ground, only to find his toy and a glowing red, demon-like orb. The
intimidating looking orb didn’t scare Jackson, so instead, he became curious that he reached his arm out
to touch it. Instead of the orb attacking him, it disappeared but not into thin air. Little did he know the orb
disintegrated into small pieces enough to sneak under one of his tiny little wounds. Human blood is usually
blue inside our body but the orb turned his blood red inside and out…Jackson stanches the toy from under the bed, and rushes out of his room to the kitchen quickly but quietly. Nobody in the house seemed to notice him. He opened the second drawer and found a knife, it was a bit blunt so he looked through the other drawers and cabinets.
“Found it!” He found the knife sharpener, but a knife sharpener isn't exactly quiet when you use it. The loud noise coming from the kitchen seemed to attract his mother’s attention.

“What are you doing?! You should be a-” She stopped herself from continuing to speak the moment she saw the knife Jackson was holding. Jackson walks towards the light switch. Flip! The lights were turned off, the only thing that could be heard throughout the house were her screams. Shortly after the screams the light was switched back on, only to reveal a murderous child and his dead mother with a blanket of blood covering them and the kitchen floor. Next thing that was heard was the ring of a phone, and his crying 4 year old sister… Soon enough sirens were heard. It was the sirens of the police and the ambulance. Jackson was too young to go to prison so got sent to juvenile prison. Jackson wasn’t there long as he was mostly in a mental asylum as he was becoming more of a psychopath as time passed. The reason he was sent to the mental asylum was because they people kept thinking he had a mental issue, but he was just possessed. No one knew Jackson was possessed, even Jackson didn’t know he was possessed, not yet at least. The demon within Jackson wanted to take revenge on Jackson’s father for trapping him inside these walls.
As the years passed Jackson was losing control over his own actions and his own body, everything he did was everything the demon forced him to do, the demon did all of that out of envy. It was envious of the freedom humans had, it wanted to kill happy families as the demon can’t ever feel happiness. The demon basically trapped Jackson inside a body, his own body but it didn’t feel like it was his to him. After many long years in the asylum Jackson was set free, back into the world he had wished to see years ago. Little did the people know that sending him out was a big mistake. The first place he checked was their old house, but it has been years so they most likely moved, but it was still worth a try. By the time he arrived he realised there were 4 people in the house, when there should only be 2 people. That was a big clue that it wasn’t Jackson's family. He still went in to ask if they knew where his father and sister moved to, but the demon said something different. The demon wanted to kill them out of anger because they didn’t know where they went. For all Jackson knew they could be in Antarctica and he wouldn’t know. The lights went out, and the screams were loud as this was the last moments of their lives. The lights switched back on as Jackson’s job there was done. Many long months passed before Jackson found his surviving family members. Many innocent people were murdered during those long months, all out of frustration.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Pizza delivery!~” The door opened revealing Jackson’s not so little sister anymore. She opened the pizza box just to find a knife coated in blood. Before she could ask about it, Jackson stabbed her in her stomach and slit her throat unwillingly. Tears rolled down his face, as her blood poured onto the ground, like a spilt drink. One by one his tears flooded down his face from his eyes. He was hesitant but still went upstairs to finish the job. He wipes his tears as he tries to find his father's bedroom.
To be continued...

Washing your hands

This weeks literacy work has been about washing your hands. I've read a text on the best way to wash your hands, and I've done a summary. I wrote my steps on how to wash your hands based on the text I read. This is just some of the work I have done this week, I can't wait to share more!
