Mrs Stone and baby Ruby :)

Earlier this morning all of Team 5 had a meet with a special guest. Mrs Stone and her beautiful baby Ruby had joined a meet with us. She was so cute! :)

Each class got to talk to Mrs Stone and ask as many questions as we wanted. Since Mrs Stone was originally Room 4's teacher we got to spend extra time with her. It was fun to see her again and with her baby. Room 3 even sang Ruby 'twinkle twinkle little star'. I think it was a great way to start the day, I'm sure everyone was happy to she Mrs Stone again.

Moon - Art work

When working with Mrs Stone yesterday we learn't about the moon, and created our very own moon too. My favourite fact I learned was that the moon is Earth's only natural satellite, I included this fact in my animation. We talked a lot about the moons appearance and how it is covered in craters which were caused by asteroids.
While making the moon everyone realised how hard it was to glue the tissue to the paper to create the craters. The painting was fun though and much easier because the glue was dried up.

Perfect Perimeter

Today's maths lesson was mainly about area and perimeter. We also did a bit of a recap on fractions and decimals.

Decimal Fractions

Today we have learned how fractions and decimals relate. I only did both levels 1 and 2 but I hope you enjoy :)

Smashing Fractions

For today's maths we did fractions. We did equivalent fractions, improper fractions and mixed. The revision was a mix of the three and addition and subtraction. After doing the revision slide I moved onto level 2.5, I honestly found it quite easy but when I did the level 3 slide I struggled. But it was still fun and it made me realise what I could do.

Fractions of a set

Today for maths we did fractions. We converted the improper fractions into mixed fractions.

Building a boat/raft

On Friday last week in Room 4 we did a challenge. We did it in groups of 4. I was with Kiarah, Lee and Jermaine.

The challenge was to build a boat or raft using tape, straws and most importantly teamwork. We worked together giving each other different roles. Kiarah gave the idea to build the boat flat with walls so the animal doesn't fall, and Jermaine helped cutting the tape, while lee help cut the straws. I had the job of putting it all together, by the time we were done the boat/raft looked like this:

Watch This Space

Earlier this afternoon, we did learn't a little bit about the science of how Earth formulated. We first wrote the things we already knew about Earth before watching the video -on the last slide- to add to the list of things we didn't know before. To be honest most of the things included in the video were things I already knew, so this was just like a reminder for me.

Thinking Critically Online

We did some Cybersmart today on how to spot fake news. Watching the video (which is on slide 2) helped with the work. This is like a recap for us year 8's, because we did this last year. It was a simple but helpful task. :)

My silhouette art

In Room 4 we've been focusing on our art for a while. We had to choose what type of silhouettes to paint. Mine is based on an image of my favourite group, I wanted to do a different one but I like how this came out as a silhouette. For the background we could chose between shades of sunsets, red to yellow, or blue to pink. I decided to use white, pink, purple, blue and a tiny bit of black at the top. While the paint was drying I began cutting the silhouette out. The bits between the legs and the rocks made it difficult to cut out so it took awhile.

Once I had fully cut it out I glued it on. It wasn't necessary but I ended up cutting little birds out and a sign - I got the idea from their previous albums, so it wasn't just random details - then I was done.

Here is how my art turned out.

Visual ratios

Today we used M&M's to create visual ratios. At first I put the M&M's in a bar graph but in this photo I tried to make a pie chart. After making some type of graph or chart we split the colours into ratios.

This ratio of green to blue is 3:3

This ratio of orange to yellow is 2:3

This ratio of red to brown is 3:2

Ratio Reconcilliation

For today's maths we did more ratios, I got confused at certain slides but I still enjoyed this task.

Divine Division

I enjoyed completing this task especially doing the doc. The division wasn't to difficult but it wasn't completely easy either. I completed this task yesterday but forgot to post it so here you go!

Is it ever okay to steal?

Today a group of us got to take part in class on air filming. We were chosen to have a debate. The debate was about stealing, and why we are for or against it being okay to steal. I was with Kiarah and Cherish (Check out their blogs, and leave a nice comment). My group were against. We originally wanted to be for, but we took the challenge of going against. On the 3rd slide it shows a few of the reasons we had against each argument.

Delicious Division

Instead of doing more addition or subtraction today, we focused on division. Division is not my strongest point in maths so it was a tiny bit confusing at first, but I used my multiplication knowledge to help me, making it easier to finish it off.

Presenting Place Value 2

Today was the second day of online school this week. For maths we're learning about decimals and addition. I enjoyed doing these slides, for me it wasn't that difficult it was more like a recap of what we had learn't last year.

Maths visual

Today during maths we were put into groups again. This time I was with Tsai, Roman and Aaron (you should check out their blogs).  Both of these tasks were similar in the way that we had to figure out patterns in the form of either numbers, symbols, or shapes. We tried different ways in the first, like if it's a circle we'd colour it orange. For the second sheet we coloured it in the corner by prime numbers, and time tables.

The Deca tree

Since we're back in level 1 today we did some maths in groups. I was in a group with Kiarah, Rae Jae and Kahurangi (you should check out their blogs). We were one of the two groups who answered correctly. We solved it together and got 8889. Along with solving this we learn't about how making mistakes helps our brain grow.

So don't be afraid to make mistake, and keep going! :)

Number Vocabulary

Today's maths slides are again like a recap, but we were learning more while recapping. Along with remembering about square and square roots, we learnt more about cubed and <,> which I now know as greater than or less then.

Maths Recap Week 3

For today's maths we simply did a recap on the things we've learn't in the past few weeks of school. We timed how long it took to finish these slides and I finished with around 7 minutes left, out of 15 minutes. Next time I aim to finish faster.
