Your sister gives you $125 to spend on lollies. If you spend $65 how much money would you have left over?

125-65=60

125-25=100-40=60

Zaeeda has bought her sister  a new puppy. She has $500 in her bank account as she heads to the shops. 

She first buys a dog bed for $60. How much money does she have left?

500-60=440

100-60=40+400=440

She then buys a bowl for $25. How much does she have left?

440-25=415

40-25=15+400=415

Then she buys 3 chew toys. Each toy costs $3.50. How much does she have left?

3x3.50=10.5

3x3=9

3x0.5(0)=1.5+9=10.5

10.5-415=

415-10=405

5-0.5=4.5+400=404.5

Finally she buys a diamond collar for the dog which costs $154.50. How much is left in her account at the end of the day?

404.5-154.50=250

404-104=300-50=250+0.5=250-0.5=250

Kalani’s python has become ill and needs to go to the vets. He  has $100 in his wallet.

The cost of the vet visit is $65.50. How much money is left in Kalani’s wallet?

100-65.50=34.5

100-60=40-5=35-0.5=34.5

AJ is also at the vet with his rabbit. His rabbit has had expensive surgery. If AJ has 10.25 left in his bank account and he started with $525.80, how much did the surgery cost?

525.80-515.55=10.25

525-515=10

0.80-0.50=0.30-0.05=0.25

0.5+0.05=0.55+515=515.55

Zyla’s puppy is growing every month. He used to weigh 5.67 kg but he now weighs 6.34kg. How much weight has he put on?

5.67+0.67=6.34

5.67+0.03=5.7+0.3=6+0.34=6.34

0.03+0.3=0.33+0.34=0.67

Pt England school are buying new sports gear. There is $500 in the sports budget. 

They first purchase a basketball hoop for $50. How much money does it leave?

500-50=450

100-50=50+400=450

They then buy a net for $25.  How much do they have left?

450-25=425

50-25=25+400=425

Then they buy three tennis balls. Each ball costs $3. How much do they have left?

425-9=416

3x3=9

25-9=16+400=416

Finally they buy a netball hoop which costs $100.  How much is left in the budget at the end?

416-100=316

Troy has $100 in his wallet. He spends $65.50 on a new PS4 game. How much money does he have left?

100-65.50=34.50

100-65=35-0.50(0.5)=34.5(0)

Kahurangi wins some money and goes on a shopping spree.If he has 10.80 left in his bank account and he started with $525.80, how much did he spend?

525.80-515=10.80

10.80+515=525.80

525-500=25+0.80=25.80-15=10.80

500+15=515

Zyla’s puppy is growing every month. He used to weigh 5.6 kg but he now weighs 6.3. How much weight has he put on?

5.6+0.7=6.3

5.6+0.4=6+0.3=6.3

0.4+0.3=0.7

Factors of 28 =1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28.

1. Kalani has $2.50. He is then given $0.80. How much more money does he have altogether? 

$2.50-30c=$2.20+80c($0.80)=$3.00+30c=$3.30

2. A swimmer is in a 100 meter race. She swims the first half of the race in 32.34 seconds and the last half of the race in 34.83 seconds. How long did it take her to swim the whole race? 

32.00+34.00=66.00(1 minute) 00.34+00.83=11.7+1 minute= 1 minute and 11.7 seconds. 

3. Pauline buys an apple for $0.90 and pays with a $5.00 note. How much change will she get? 

$5.00-$0.90=$5.10+$0.90=$5.00 

4. Oali’i walks 0.7km to school and Jane walks 0.5kms to school. How much farther does Oali’i  walk than Jane?

0.5km+0.2km=0.7km

5. One pencil weighs 28.3 grams. How much do 5 pencils weigh?

28.3x5=141.5

28.3+28=56.3+0.03=56.6+50.6=107.2+6=113.2+28=141.2+0.03=141.5

AJ’s family are planning to build a treehouse in their garden. Some of Aj’s friends offer to help him to build it.

1. In order to start constructing the house,  AJ needs to get some wood from bunnings. His mum buys 45 planks of wood and his dad buys 132 planks of wood. How many do they have together?

45+132=177

45+32=77+100=177

 2. While building the house, AJ noticed that they were running out of nails so he went to buy some. They have 9 nails left at home. AJ  buys a pack of 145 nails and a pack of 50 nails. How many nails do they have now?

50+9=59+105=164+40=204

3. To have a more stable treehouse, Jacob decided to tie the corner posts of the house to the tree itself. He used 24 cm of rope for the first post, 20cm on the second, 14cm on the third and 12cm on the fourth. How much rope was used? 

24+20=44 14+12=26+44=70cm of rope used altogether

4. The treehouse is almost done; all they need is to paint it. Paschal estimated that they will use 37L of white paint, 15L of green paint and 34L  of brown paint. How many litres of paint would they buy in total? 

15+34=49+30=79+7=86L

5. After finishing the treehouse, AJs’ family made cookies for his friends to thank them for helping. If AJ ate 15 cookies, Jacob ate 10, Paschal ate 6  and Tisa only ate 5, how many cookies were eaten in total?

15+5=20+10=30+6=36
