Serious Subtraction 2
We are learning to solve subtraction problems using whole and decimal numbers.

Times Table Practice:

Show your working for the following problems, either on here or in your books

Your sister gives you $125 to spend on lollies. If you spend $65 how much money would you have left over?
125-65=60
125-25=100-40=60
Zaeeda has bought her sister  a new puppy. She has $500 in her bank account as she heads to the shops. 

She first buys a dog bed for $60. How much money does she have left?
500-60=440
100-60=40+400=440
She then buys a bowl for $25. How much does she have left?
440-25=415
40-25=15+400=415
Then she buys 3 chew toys. Each toy costs $3.50. How much does she have left?
3x3.50=10.5
3x3=9
3x0.5(0)=1.5+9=10.5
10.5-415=
415-10=405
5-0.5=4.5+400=404.5
Finally she buys a diamond collar for the dog which costs $154.50. How much is left in her account at the end of the day?
404.5-154.50=250
404-104=300-50=250+0.5=250-0.5=250
Kalani’s python has become ill and needs to go to the vets. He  has $100 in his wallet.
The cost of the vet visit is $65.50. How much money is left in Kalani’s wallet?
100-65.50=34.5
100-60=40-5=35-0.5=34.5
AJ is also at the vet with his rabbit. His rabbit has had expensive surgery. If AJ has 10.25 left in his bank account and he started with $525.80, how much did the surgery cost?
525.80-515.55=10.25
525-515=10
0.80-0.50=0.30-0.05=0.25
0.5+0.05=0.55+515=515.55
Zyla’s puppy is growing every month. He used to weigh 5.67 kg but he now weighs 6.34kg. How much weight has he put on?
5.67+0.67=6.34
5.67+0.03=5.7+0.3=6+0.34=6.34

0.03+0.3=0.33+0.34=0.67
